Good news has been hard to come by for the Kraken lately in this early part of the season; they’ve yet to record a win and have been fighting their own offense for results…and losing Brandon Tanev certainly hasn’t helped, as he was injured on the NHL’s opening night against the Vegas Golden Knights when Brett Howden clocked him up high, and received a match penalty and a suspension for his actions. Tanev fell awkwardly from the blow, but no specific injury was given; at the time or now.

Finally, it appears we have a reasonable timeframe of which to expect him back.

Per the team, Brandon Tanev has suffered a lower body injury on the play, and will be out for the next 4 to 6 weeks, bringing his potential return window somewhere before or after American Thanksgiving. Until then, Tye Kartye will be filling in his spot in the lineup.

For those confused as to why it isn’t a more specific injury report, Pro Ice Hockey has a tendency to underreport injuries for various reasons. The explanation I’m most comfortable giving is that it’s a holdover from a more aggressive time in the game when there was a real danger of said injured player getting a target painted on their backs by less savory players who would target the then recently-healed [PART OF THE BODY HERE] in order to re-injure it.

This kind of reporting has gotten a lot better; for instance, we now know it’s an injury that takes about a month to heal up from, and there aren’t nearly as many players who are trying to actively injure their colleagues anymore, but the vagueness still remains.

Regardless, we wish Tanev all the best in his recovery, and hope he comes back at 100% when he does return.
