Game Preview:

At long last! The Firebirds play!

What a shame they have to start it on the road.

The Firebirds and the Wranglers clash tonight in the cold, heartless wastes of Alberta for the next two games, and at the very least splitting this clash will be instrumental towards potentially winning it. The Wranglers are coming into this one on a head of steam momentum wise, though thankfully they also got a week off to hopefully compensate. The Firebirds meanwhile, have last played games back on April 21st, getting a two week’s vacation out of the deal.

Whether or not that’s created rust is entirely up to how Coachella prepared for this one.

As per the series preview, the Firebirds have to attack Calgary’s defense and fast; they’re a deeper team than a lot of the AHL’s Pacific Division, but they’re not an especially great one on the backcheck, and rely heavily on Dustin Wolf to carry a lot of the load. They’re as fresh as daisies, so it behooves them to forecheck for their lives and take ample advantage of the ice that will be given to them. It will be a hostile environment; so they need to figure out how to silence the crowd quickly.

This ought to be a great game, so let’s go Firebirds! Let’s go Baby Squids!
