2023 Kraken vs. Blues RECAP: Seattle stays winless in 2-1 SO loss

Oh mama told me there’d be nights like this.

If you can stand it, the Highlights

Game Notes

  • Your TOI leader tonight was Adam Larsson, who played a phenomenal 29:52 TOI
  • The Kraken played a lot better than their previous game, but ran headlong into once again into a goalie duel. Binnington was beaten by the Kraken twice, which should’ve ultimately been the decider, but St. Louis had Vince Dunn’s goal called back on what I would consider a fairly flimsy case. I understand why we need to protect goalies, but there’s a difference between that, and whatever pro wrestling selling Binnington pulled to have this stick tapping his chest was. If I wanted to watch obvious and blatant selling then I’d watch the undercard of Collision.
  • Otherwise, both goalies played out of their minds; Daccord and Binnington both logged a .968 SV% and, even if one of them was flopping around to preserve their save percentage. Both of them had whole periods where they had to keep their respective teams together through some awkward shifts.
  • The shootout sucks but at this point I think the easiest way to avoid it is to score in regulation or in Overtime! Speaking of which, what the hell was that effort on 3-on-3? What are you so afraid of? Losing more? They’ve done enough of that already!
  • I’m starting to think that Tye Kartye is a bit wasted on the fourth line. He barely played much, a mere 7:40 but got off 3 shots, had one of the individual highest unblocked-shots for on the Kraken tonight, and in general was pretty solid. Problem is…I don’t know who you’d move right now. Schwartz just scored, Tolvanen does good things with the Gourde line, and Jared McCann had the most shots tonight. This kid needs more ice time and more chances, and Bellemare…really isn’t going to make that happen.
  • Rapidly souring on Bellemare but I’m waiting for the 150 minute of even-strength time on ice. He’s winning a ton of his faceoffs, though. That’s something.
  • Coaching review sucks. That is all.

Were there any Positives at all?

I mean tonight? Sure. There’s actual positives!

  • The Power Play did something! Yes, the Kraken’s sole regulation goal of the game came on the power play, something that had previously been absolutely putrid.
  • Jaden Schwartz! For scoring a power play goal! Excellent tip on his part. Having the presence of mind to know where a bomb like Bjorky’s is going is an underrated skill in goalscoring.
  • Joey Daccord! For playing yet another really good game for a Kraken goalie, and this damn team once again REFUSES TO HELP THEIR GOALIES BY SCORING GOD-
  • Vince Dunn! He couldn’t keep his goal thanks to uh…bulls#!t, but he did assist on Schwartz’s goal by setting up Bjorkstrand for that bomb. He still should’ve had two points tonight but hey, I’m not a ref.

It would be nice if I could talk about this in the context of a win for once! This is VERY FRUSTRATING!

Lets just sort of stare at the Fancystats provided by NaturalStatTrick.com

They gotta start converting at some point. They just gotta.

The Kraken finally get to go home to Climate Pledge for a week, and open with the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday evening. That game is an ESPN joint, and drops the puck at 7pm PDT.

We will see you there, and god willing…

Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.
