Game Notes

  • Jaden Schwartz left the game in the first period with an upper-body injury and did not return. Brandon Tanev took his place on the Oliver Bjorkstrand/Jared McCann line.
  • The game felt like a preseason game with players not being on the same page, missing passes, and being off with their timing. The line shuffling with the Wennberg trade and Dunn injury probably didn’t help, nor did the Schwartz injury which only added to the issues. Seattle turned the puck over four times in the first 13 minutes of the game, when they average five giveaways a game.
  • The first goal of the game didn’t come until 12:45 remaining. It was a low-event, defensively slog of a game for most of it. Neither team registered a single shot on goal for almost seven full minutes to start the second.
  • The only penalty came during the third period when André Burakovsky was tripped by Mark Scheifele on a breakaway. In doing so, Burakovsky’s skate accidentally clipped him in the head and he immediately went down the tunnel. It’s not often you see someone get injured on a play when they were also the one committing the penalty. Schefele would be okay, and did return at the very end of the game.
  • Coach Hakstol said he liked the way they played, but they lacked the energy. “Our guys worked,” he said after the game, “but it didn’t feel like we had a lot of gas in the tank.” They looked tired — maybe they were up all night worrying about Eberle being traded? Who knows, but they just looked exhausted, registering only 17 shots on goal all night. Seattle had a bevy of chances that just missed, hit the post twice, and a handful of other almosts. This was just not the night for the Kraken.

Three Stars of the Game

⭐ Laurent Broissoit (17 saves on 17 shots, 1.00%)
⭐⭐ Adam Lowry (1g)
⭐⭐⭐ Mark Scheifele (1g)

Here are tonight’s Natural Stat Trick heat maps:

Seattle will get plenty of time to rest up, as they don’t play again until Tuesday, where they will face the Golden Knights at home.
