No rain forecast for Winter Classic

Seattle and the Winter Classic will be the center of the hockey universe when the Kraken take on the Golden Knights this New Year’s Day. We will likely see people throwing fish at Pike Place Market at some point because it’s required by the FCC for any national sports broadcast in Seattle. We will probably see b-roll of our beautiful city, its iconic skyline, and its majestic waterways and mountains. Seattle is a city with a lot of personality, and you will see that on full display tomorrow.

One Seattle stereotype we will probably not see is rain.

As of this writing less than 15 hours before puck drop, the forecast is calling for no rain and temperature in the low 40s (5 degrees Celsius for our non-American readers) but will be mostly cloudy. (It rains about half the days here in December.)

Not too hot that the ice is in danger of melting (NHL arenas are kept at around 60 degrees). Not too cold that fans risk getting frostbite. No rain. No direct sunlight to melt the ice.

As far as outdoor games go, this is about the best possible scenario you could ask for weather-wise.

(You know, assuming the weather cooperates with the forecast.)
