Matty Beniers wins NHL Rookie of the Year at the NHL Awards!

The NHL Awards ceremony is going on in Nashville ahead of the Draft, and the Kraken were blessed to have their star young center Matthew Beniers up for multiple awards this year!

Regretfully he didn’t bring home the Lady Byng, which Em regretfully called. But he did win a different award. One that describes him a lot better, in my opinion. The NHL Rookie of the year award as represented by the Calder Memorial Trophy!

This is his first NHL Award, as well as Seattle’s, which is hardly a surprise; Matty B played 80 games, and led rookie scoring and points-getting for pretty much the entire year, with only Wyatt Johnson of Dallas coming in under the radar to tie his 24 goals very late in the season. Matty B was an unbelievable force for the Kraken, as he dazzled fans and opposing defenses throughout the entire season.

I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say we’re very, very, very lucky to have him here in Seattle.

Congrats to Matty B on the Calder win!
