Kraken vs. Sharks RECAP: Seattle makes quick work of San Jose!

Happy Turkey Day, everybody.

But first, the Highlights!

Game Notes:

  • Your TOI Leader was Jamie Oleksiak, who finished his night with 23:15 logged!
  • This game was much, much simpler than you might expect; the Sharks are just bad, man. They’re trying to be, in fairness, but they are an absolute nightmare of a team right now. Seattle was just taking advantage of a beaten and bloody team that is truly desperate. On some level I did feel kind of bad…but two points is two points unfortunately. Feeling bad for Sharks fans these days however.
  • The Kraken had 12 players walk away from this one with a point, and I hope they take this kind of momentum into their next meeting with the Canucks!
  • It’s a damn shame that Joey couldn’t get the shutout, but frankly I can’t think of what this game would’ve looked like had the Sharks not gotten something. It also helps Mike Hoffman potentially get traded to a good team, so progress?
  • 14 shots on goal. Good gravy, San Jose.
  • This also is the kind of game the Kraken need to have against a number of teams. There are still a lot of bad teams in the NHL for reasons unknown to me, and so they need to take these points where they can; particularly when they start facing their Central Division
  • In a true holiday miracle, the Kraken were the only team they were around in the standings today to have beaten their opponent tonight; Anaheim lost, Arizona lost, and the Flames lost meaning a lot of the pressure is off this team…for now. It still took well over a month for this team to get to NHL .500, and they still need to get some work done.

Let’s give a hand to…

  • Oliver Bjorkstrand! The Maestro walked away from this one with four points and the first star. It’s terrifying to think he could’ve had more. Well done indeed. His goal was just emblematic of some absolutely horrific problems the Sharks have to solve, too.
  • Eeli Tolvanen! Two goals and an assist, and while neither of them were great ones to give up, it’s good to see him once again have a solid night of goalscoring.
  • Brandon Tanev! The Kraken had some excellent goals tonight, but I think Turbo’s was my favorite. It came off of a hell of a shift in the defensive end that became a breakaway, and a truly disrespectful poke-in goal.
  • Jamie Oleksiak! Directly assisted on Tolvanen’s final tally and secondarily helped with Tanev’s.
  • Special Teams was pretty solid! In fairness, the Sharks couldn’t buy a penalty, but they also couldn’t do anything with theirs. Power play also went 1/3! Solid night!
  • Joey Daccord! Finished his night with a .929 SV% and faced extremely few shots. Couldn’t have asked for better from him.

Keep your eyes at a distance. They kicked them up and down the ice.

The Kraken get Thanksgiving off, and then are back at it right afterwards on Friday where they face the Vancouver Canucks. That game starts at 7pm PT.

We’ll see you then, and until next time; we at DJLR would like to say Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends, well-wish all our Canadian friends who had their Thanksgiving back in October, and as always…

Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.
