- The TOI leader for the Kraken does not matter tonight because that meant they were on the ice in an absolutely awful effort for far too long.
- This game was over by the end of the first period. The Edmonton Oilers, as Allyson so eloquently put it, have been extraordinarily unlucky and an absolutely listless, defensively bereft of any redeeming features, and featured Philipp Grubauer assuming that a desperate team was going to just wait for the whistle when the goaltender went down and the puck fell into a pile of bodies. Absolutely nobody in that first period should have walked out of it with the feeling of being satisfied with their play or that they earned their contracts, because a natural hat trick for Zach Hyman through 20 minutes is absolutely unacceptable by any margin. It’s even more unacceptable after getting a strong effort against Colorado that has gotten them closer and closer to .500.
- I mean, 5 shots in the first period? four in the second? This is not the first time this exact thing has happened and it’s been against gimme opponents who are struggling to get anything done. This needs to fall on the team and it’s coaching; Dave, you need to have a long heart to heart with these players and if you can’t get through to them, you need to consider what your long term future with this team is. This cannot be the way business is done in Seattle, man. Last year cannot be some aberration of your style.
- I’m also gonna come down on Hakstol a little bit for not scrambling the lines or perhaps wholesale promoting certain lines. Tye Kartye has had his struggles, but Kailer Yamamoto is pretty clearly a depth guy at this point in his career. There’s just no point in playing him
- Anyway I hear like half of Calgary’s defense is up for grabs and Chris Tanev is looking for a way out. Think he might want to reunite with his brother? Or any of those guys who seem to be good but annoyed with Craig Conroy’s style?
- Get well soon, Burky and Turbo. The Kraken badly need you, as it turns out.
- All of this on Veteran’s day? C’mon, man.
Was there anything positive about this game?
Yes. Jaden Schwartz scored the only Seattle goal and continued his point streak to nine games.
Everything else was bad.
