Game Notes

  • Your TOI leader was Vince Dunn who had 23:22 logged tonight.
  • This game was decided by the third period being a place where the Kraken straight up did not show up to play. WhyNotZoidberg in the comments section of the preview pointed out this team has one of the worst 3rd period goal differentials in the entire league, and man if this didn’t look like a third period to reinforce that. They allowed the Flames endless space, allowed them 12 shots on goal through the final 20 minutes, and eventually their listless effort and loss in overtime again.
  • Does this fall on the players? Obviously; they play the games. Is their net-front D still a major area of concern that anybody with a working set of eyes could corraborate? Absolutely? Does that all fall on the players? No. I think we need to start having discussions about why Dave Hakstol’s system is beginning to look worse than just “bad”. When it looks bad they just lose. Hakstol’s system is beginning to look like it’s actively only capable of working through about 40-50 minutes of hockey. That does not bode well.
  • It’s especially annoying because otherwise the Kraken were great through those 40-50 minutes! They could’ve and should’ve had this game in the bag. They should’ve f?#king buried the Flames based on their play through the first 40 minutes. All it took was 15 to have it come crashing down around their ears. This is actual madness.
  • Philipp Grubauer left the game early with an undisclosed injury, possibly from contact made on him during the 1st period. Joey Daccord in relief was phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. It’s a goddamn shame he was the only player in the locker room who seemed excited to play another 20 minutes of hockey. We hope that Grubauer was pulled precautionarily, but if he’s hurt, then it’ll have to be Daccord and likely Driedger until he’s back.
  • In a sick twist of fate, grabbing that loser point somehow got them into the 2nd wild card spot thanks to Arizona and Anaheim absolutely beefing it over the last three or four games. Joy and laughter. They’d better pants the Sharks on Wednesday. If you’re gonna abuse this system to somehow get into a spot for a day, you might as well take the points you should be taking.
  • …Which is still something the KRAKEN SHOULD BE DOING NOW AGAINST A CALGARY TEAM IN DISARRAY.

Were there any Positives at all?

Sure.

  • Joey Daccord in relief played a strong .917 SV% game who played a ton of hard minutes against a Flames team that actually seemed interested in winning rather than playing to an overtime.
  • Vince Dunn had two points tonight; one an absolute cannon of a goal on Vladar from a very long distance, and the assist on Eberle’s tally.
  • Jordan Eberle and his line ruled the roost for two periods, and he was rewarded with a goal for it.

[weak groan]

The Kraken stay at home after this debacle, and face the league’s worst team, the San Jose Sharks, on Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
