Kraken vs. Canucks RECAP: Vancouver grinds Seattle to paste in 5-1 loss

Well. That tears it; this team isn’t very good.

Injuries just made ’em a lot worse.

I’m not happy about this. I’m not even mad. I am just…tired.

The Highlights, if you can stand it

Game Notes

  • Your TOI Leader was Vince Dunn, who logged 25:09 tonight.
  • Look. I don’t mind if the Kraken are bad. Not right now. It’s year 3, they still need to fill out a lot more of their prospect system, they’ve still got some decisions to make with their goaltending long-term, and Vancouver has finally put themselves in a position to actually be pretty good, and their best players are league leaders. What I despise, is game efforts like this. Like the same way I’ve said they have since the end of October. An incomplete effort with an atrocious net-front defense that couldn’t handle the Canucks speed nor much of their physicality until it became too goddamn late.
  • Bjorkstrand and Tanev appear to have been injured, though like everything else in hockey, we’re going to be waiting until we get more concrete evidence of what their time table looks like.
  • What the hell do I keep saying about the goaltending now? Daccord sort of had his down and out moments but the Canucks badly exposed the Kraken’s defense as absolutely incapable of handling this. A team doesn’t just become this overnight. Then again, they said that about Edmonton, and they started the year worse than Seattle; thank god. We can come back around to this on the charts but if this team can’t establish possession after a blocked shot, what the hell are they blocking the shot for? Just let it hit Daccord in the chest and take the faceoff. You get performances from your goaltender that can survive that kind of ineptitude maybe once or twice a season if you’re good. The Kraken need something to the tune of .960 goaltending nightly to get out of their goddamn funk.
  • This team’s identity was wearing teams down with speed at even-strength. They don’t have that anymore. So now they’re out in the woods without a compass. We’re stuck hoping they get out.
  • Still in a playoff spot for the time being.
  • Are the refs throwing out more players these days for getting mad at them? I swear I’ve watched a dude get tossed for abuse of official while game-surfing between periods.
  • Chicago on Tuesday. Better make that shit count because they’re almost an AHL team.

Were there any positives to this game?

Yeah. Tye Kartye scored and also punched a dude and cussed out a ref and got ejected for it. That’s it.

Everything else sucked.

Well, Climate Pledge is going to have to fumigate after that exhausting performance, so the Kraken are on the road for some midwestern/eastern conference action, starting with the Blackhawks on Tuesday night at 5:30pm PT.

We’ll see you there.

Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.
