- Your TOI Leader was Adam Larsson who logged 25:47
- Mitch Marner was a holy terror tonight, but if there’s one thing we could count on for this game, it’s the modern Leafs; they’re honestly not that great at even strength and are absolutely awful on defense. The comeback was distant, but you could see it in the way the Leafs just kinda…stopped doing stuff that wasn’t related to Mitch Marner. It was inevitable. Shame they couldn’t wrap it up in Overtime.
- The Kraken didn’t have a great first period, but more than made up for it by having two genuinely really good periods in the 2nd and 3rd, even if they couldn’t get a lead in that time. This is a building block to hopefully being less bad in the future? I sure hope so. I’d 1000% rather watch a team comeback than a team run out of gas every night.
- Grubauer against pretty much everyone who wasn’t Mitch Marner in regulation and overtime? Perfect SV%! A clean sweep! Grubauer against Marner? Well, an .893 SV% with this defensive setup is pretty good, and he kept him in this one for a good portion of it, so I’m willing to give it a pass. He still had to make way too many saves with the Leafs up his nose.
- Somehow, this clown car of a conference has the Kraken back in the mix with Nashville and Arizona…assuming Arizona doesn’t beat Colorado in the time it takes me to post this. This is going to be a very, very stupid season down the stretch.
- Honestly, just admitting to myself this is a good idea of what they are has freed me from a lot of my frustration. It’s probably not good that I’m having to bargain with myself to feel joy about Kraken hockey, but I think there’s realistically only a couple of minor things they need to change and they’ll be okay. It’s just gonna be a minute until they do that.
- The shootout sucks.
Was There Anything Positive About This Game?
Actually? Yes!
- The Third period wasn’t absolute wet, fresh swampass! The Kraken’s third periods lately have been tremendously poor. Just soul-shatteringly, unwatchably bad. This time they left all of that for the first period and honestly? If that’s the way things have to be for the Kraken to better control the game, then so be it. I’d rather lose the first 20 and win the back 40 than the opposite. They even controlled all the good shots in overtime! Good stuff!
- Jared McCann! It’s sort of known that the Leafs will allow former Leafs a courtesy goal, but he took full-control in this game and made himself a real issue for Toronto
- Eeli Tolvanen! Had a goal tonight and has 4 points in his last 5 games! Don’t look up how that’s been spread out it’s just true!
