Kraken @ Coyotes RECAP: Seattle struggles to keep up in 4-3 Shootout Loss

Starting to get reaaaaal sick of this, Kraken.

The Highlights, if you can stand them

Game Notes

  • The TOI Leader was Vince Dunn, who logged 26:38 of time on ice.
  • Look. Arizona is no longer an abject failure like they used to be. We should not be shocked that the Coyotes could win this game. It’s just annoying that the Kraken lost in the way they did; while their passing was still kinda on-and-off, their 5v5 and power play was honestly not nearly as bad as the Calgary game, and frankly they had some exceptional work here or there…but for the life of them, the Kraken could not find a good stop nor did their defensive effort really inspire much; they limited their shots, but AZ was able to get some real quality through, with Daccord often having to come up big.
  • Man I dunno what Matty Beniers has to do to get a goddamn goal at this rate. Had a golden opportunity on a breakaway, had two assists, was honestly keeping the play moving in the right direction in spite of his slump…but couldn’t hit the back of the net. It’s maddening. He’s alternating between serious trouble and doing everything right but getting a goal.
  • Can we please make some more aggressive changes on the overtime strategy now, David. You’re lighting actual points on fire right now.
  • Joey Daccord finished with an .889 SV%. I will once again give him some slack since he made some crazy saves with his defense making bizarre decisions around him, he’s put a half-decent effort forward.
  • In general, the Kraken are starting to feel an awful lot like a boat with a lot of leaks coming at once; if one thing isn’t going right, they’ll try to fix it and then two new problems arise. If it’s not the offense, it’s net-front defense. If it’s not effort, it’s goaltending. If it’s not goaltending, it’s effort. They’re still somehow not out of it…but we’re getting to a real precarious place. The Kraken are two points back on Arizona, and will be likely fighting like demons to get that Wildcard spot. It’s gonna be a fight.

Were there any Positives?

  • Matty Beniers had two assists; directly for Schultz and Schwartz’s goals. If only he had a goal.
  • Eeli Tolvanen had a goal and an assist; namely starting the Kraken off.
  • Jaden Schwartz with his goal tonight made it clear he’s going to be one of the better players on this team; tying McCann with six.

The Kraken’s road trip continues on against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night, November 9th. That game drops the puck at 7pm PT.

A complete effort will come one day, we just have to hope it’s coming on Thursday. Until next time.

Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win
