Jordan Eberle signs 2 year extension worth $9.5 million

It appears all those rumors of Ebs being moved were just that; rumors.

In the wee hours of the Pacific Time Zone’s morning, multiple reporters shouted in unison that Kraken forward Jordan Eberle would in fact be staying as he’s signed a 2 year extension on his contract worth $9.5 Million dollars!

The saga began as the Kraken’s deadline day plans seemed to be shoring up after the trade of Alex Wennberg and the bevy of new players in Vegas and Colorado made waves throughout the conference. There came a point where talks had stalled out, and there was concern that they could have ended up parting ways; due to term on an extension being a sticking point.

However, hope sprang eternal for Seattle as GM Ron Francis and Eberle’s camp came back to the table, and less than a half hour later? He’s in Seattle for the next two years; under a full NTC to boot. That 9.5m figure evens out to $4.5 million AAV over each of his next two years.

Eberle has had his struggles (what Kraken forward hasn’t this year), but has otherwise been an exemplary top 6 forward for Seattle, and last year got to shed an unfair label of poor playoff performer, and has remained a premiere playmaker for Deep Blue. He has 37 points on the year, in 58 games played, and is obviously expected to be a major force in the top six for the near future.

Hanging onto this guy is a smart call. He’s creating all sorts of offense! | Evolving-Hockey.com

This has to be relief for Eberle, who’s gone on record several times as calling Seattle home. Its never good to find yourself displaced after finding a home, after all.

Welcome back, Ebs! Put a hat trick tonight on Winnipeg to celebrate!
