So, the Kraken are kind of bad and are trying to harm you personally. Mercifully, their future seems to be shining ever brighter thanks to Team Canada giving some nods to Seattle’s prospects!
The World Juniors begins this month in Göteborg, Sweden after Christmas, and camps are opening up all over to find the best possible teenagers to take home gold. Canada invited four of Seattle’s prospects to participate, though only three will be attending.
These players are:
- Jagger Firkus – Forward
- Carson Rehkopf – Forward
- Ty Nelson – Defenseman
While honors of course, these are hardly shocking additions; Firkus has been in a dogfight with a number of players in the WHL for league-points leader and Rehkopf has been tearing up the OHL and leads it outright in points and goals. Nelson meanwhile has been one of the best players on the North Bay Battalion with 30 points in 28 games; not too bad for a defenseman! It’s also of course, no guarantee that any of them will make it…but I think we can agree the chances of that being the case is extremely unlikely; World Juniors prognosticators aren’t 100% keen on Canada’s chances this year, and any major boost in skill and scoring will likely help; all three of which are mighty talented.
According to The Hockey News, there was also a request for Shane Wright, but the Kraken elected to keep him in Coachella this year. Seems they had all they could of talking about Wright’s whirligig last season and want him to keep the pace. He’s far from the only one; only one team actually elected to send a prospect they weren’t already using.
Team USA meanwhile, featured no Kraken players, and Sweden/Finland have yet to release their camp lists yet. If any further Kraken prospects end up gunning to be part of the festivities in Göteborg, we’ll let you know.
