Kraken vs. Nashville RECAP: Offense dies in 4-1 loss

They should’ve let the Preds see U2.

If you can stand it, what passes for highlights

Game Notes

  • Your TOI Leader was Adam Larsson, with 23:04 played.
  • This has been the entire week for the Kraken encapsulated. Slow start, stronger 2nd period but ultimately to no avail, and then getting a tying goal before trying to park the bus and survive ’till overtime. The Kraken are completely out of sorts and they don’t seem terribly interested anymore in making it look even mildly convincing. Vince Dunn and Jaden Schwartz are sorely missed in this lineup, even if they’re just day-to-day.
  • Part of the reason why they’re so missed is because of an unimaginably anemic offense that could not get a goddamn thing done with the puck; they overpassed when they could’ve shot, they shot wide when they had plenty of good opportunities to score, and it was all encapsulated by Brandon Tanev’s breakaway. I wish I didn’t have eyes of which to see after watching a guy who is known for making missile-fire speedy attempts on net decide to PASS THE PUCK on a breakout. When you’re having trouble with puck possession, the other team can press you, and when the other team can press you, you end up in the defensive zone a lot, which they did. When you end up in the defensive zone a lot, you can end up puck watching, and boy did that end up costing the Kraken big time. It was a cavalcade of poor decisions that created the miserable score in front of you.
  • Grubauer had an .897 SV%, which obscures the sheer amount of backbreaking work he had to do in order to keep the Kraken in this game. He had to put up with some truly abominable defense tonight, and made it nearly to the halfway point of the third before things started to fall apart. It’s a grand, cruel, cosmic joke that he’s starting to rebound in form and the skating structure of the forwards and defenders look like a beaten up parts car from 50 years ago. I for one wouldn’t blame Grubert at all for throwing hands on Jason Zucker if he had to keep putting up with blown assignment after blown assignment.
  • Went 1-for-2 on the power play, so that’s at least something. Penalty kill wasn’t completely dead, though they went 1-for-3 on a Roman Josi blast. In fairness…Roman Josi is playing out of his mind right now, but that’s still pretty rough.
  • We’re back to the extra attacker from the goalie pull not doing anything. At some point you have to get it through your thick skull that this doesn’t do anything for them, Dave. We got tired of this song and dance a long time ago.
  • Four losses in a row, three in regulation. Something’s gotta give here, and hopefully soon; I don’t want these squids going on that back to back and coming away extremely sad.
  • DRAFT UPDATE: oh god I really wrote that. Well, it didn’t hurt the Kraken’s chances, as they’ve jumped from 13th in the order to 11th; with a 3% chance at getting the 1st overall pick. Not great odds, but that’s where a lot of the half-decent playmakers and scorers of this draft live, so I’m not bothered by it.

Did ANYTHING good happen in this game?

Couple things.

  • Andre Burakovsky ended up the sole Kraken goalscorer and looked like he was just about to turn this game around.
  • Philipp Grubauer ended up the third star of tonight’s game
  • They got closer to a top ten draft pick.

‘Sbout it. That game got on my nerves badly because I already watch a team that struggles hard at offense, and two of them is gonna put my hair at a platinum white by the time I’m 40.

I know we’re all organizationally in on team “trust the process” but maybe calling up like one or two of the Firebirds won’t kill you?

The current roster you have certainly can’t kill you harder.

Well, the Kraken have to lick their wounds for a day and get ready to end this abysmal homestand, because they take on the Buffalo Sabres at 7pm PT on Monday.

We’ll see you then, thank you for reading, and as always.

Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win
