Kraken vs. Lightning RECAP: Seven in a row.

I feel nothing but pain. Low and dull. There, but not enough to deal with.

The Highlights if you need to be sad

Game Notes

  • Your TOI leader for tonight’s game was
  • Look, this started like a lot of the games in this absolute nightmare of a stretch. Go down early, try to claw your way back into the game, and for a depressing amount of time it looked like that wasn’t going to work…and then they kind of did? They massively outshot the Lightning in the second and kept the pace up in the third, Bjorkstrand got a huge one to get things started, and then to start the third they got a whole-ass lead from Jared McCann. This looked like it was gonna be it. It was gonna happen. Then another net-front catastrophe. Another player left out in open ice. A game they could’ve absolutely won ended with the Kraken merely walking away with a point against a brother in bad defensive coverage. I’m not aggravated or mad at this point because this is just who they are now; a team that is deeply flawed in just about every step of the even strength game. I think I’m past bargaining and anger. I am at a level of bitter acceptance.
  • If there is such a thing as an Injury Bug, it manifests itself as a kaiju to the Kraken; it took Justin Schultz and Phillipp Grubauer in the same night, not 48 hours after losing Andre Burakovsky after him being on injured reserve for months.
  • Brighter note, Ollie Bjorkstrand got his 300th NHL Point. Glad to see it! He’s one of the very, very, very few positives in this 40 car pileup of a season.
  • I’m at my wit’s end with the lineup as it stands. You know it’s not working. Why aren’t you changing it, David? AHL guys aren’t going to fix it. You need to start promoting lines that are playing well, or at the bare minimum demoting the players who seem a little overwhelmed.
  • Grubauer did about as well as could be expected today, and then left the game early with an injury, putting Joey Daccord in the game in relief. He stopped 5 of 7 shots. You know my opinion on whether or not any of these guys had any chance on their goals.
  • This team is trying to psychologically break me and I simply will not allow it to.

Was there anything positive about this game?

The sick thing about games like this is that there absolutely were.

  • Philipp Grubauer before his injury was probably headed for a decent .910 SV%. And then he got hurt. Wait that isn’t positiv-
  • Oliver Bjorkstrand got a milestone goal and lit the baleful hope of flame for the Kraken tonight. Kudos to Tolvanen on getting that pretty risky pass to him through at a tough angle!
  • Jamie Oleksiak got his second goal of the night and I thought John Forslund was going to peak his mic when it happened. It was a phenomenal shot.
  • Jared McCann got the Kraken their first lead in over 16 days. SIX. TEEN. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THEIRS.

This made me frown so hard.

You had them. They slipped through your fingers.

God. Damnit.

The Kraken have a chance to go eight games in a row with a loss with the visiting Minnesota Wild tomorrow night. That game drops the puck at 6pm PT.

We will see you there.
