It’s college free agent season, and Ron Francis has a guy he wants.
The Kraken announced just recently that they’ve signed College UFA Lleyton Roed, from Bemidji State University to a 3 year, Entry Level Contract worth $950,000 AAV.
Roed has been a major part of Bemidji State’s continued dominance over the last couple of years in the CCHA; though they failed to stop the Huskies of Michigan Tech this year in a tight 2-1 game for the CCHA’s Mason Cup.
Roed; a 5’11 forward, has been strong at the college level: he’s led the Beavers in points in both of the years he’s been up in Bemidji; turning in another strong campaign this year with 30 points in 38 games, tied for 7th overall in his conference. It’s been good enough to get him a nomination for the Hobey Baker (though that’s probably going to Macklin Celebrini), and a CCHA forward of the year finalist.
As for his place in this roster, I would imagine he’s making his way to Coachella Valley for the time being, which is a marked difference from Bemidji. After all, the winters have about…40 degrees Fahrenheit difference between each other.
I’m sure he’ll adjust.
Either way, we welcome Lleyton to The Deep!
