Roll the highlight reel!

Game notes

The Kraken squared off in Edmonton against a red-hot Oilers itching to add to their massive winning streak. In the first period, they held their own with two unanswered goals. But Edmonton recovered and had the Kraken trying to work their defensive magic.

  • Injured. The Kraken didn’t have the help of injured Matty Beniers or Vince Dunn.
  • Off to a great start. Finding first blood may just be a key to the Kraken’s success as of late, and due to sharp thinking and capitalizing off mistakes, the Kraken found two unanswered goals in the first period: Eeli Tolvanen at 9:49 and Jared McCann at 13:32, his 18th of the season.
  • Dashed hopes. With 1:52 remaining in the second, a smart pass by Joey Daccord to Alex Wennberg during an Oilers shift change went in the net. It would have been a primary assist for Daccord, but after a challenge, Seattle was found to be offside. Unfortunately, the coolest bit of offense for the night was all for naught.
  • Tempers flared. Yanni Gourde got a 5 minute major at 16:26 in the third period for charging. Yanni found himself in the middle of a scrum after a hit on Mattias Ekholm and an angry Yanni emerged with a bloodied eyebrow in what is sure to be the highlight picture of the night. Ekholm received a minor for roughing, but the damage was done. During Edmonton’s power play, Zach Hyman scored the fourth goal of the night.
  • Well THAT was a weird ending. At the end of the third period, we saw the aforementioned penalty against Gourde and Ekholm, penalties against Will Borgen and Warren Foegele with 33 seconds remaining, then a misconduct penalty and Kraken were leaving the ice left and right, it seemed. Clearly, there was plenty of frustration to go around, but with so little time left, there was no recovering and we end with a 2 – 4 score.
  • Daccord had 32/38 for a .889 SV%.

Let’s give a hand to…

  • Jared McCann for collecting his 18th goal of the season.
  • Ryker Evans for being the champ of time on ice with 22:52.
  • Alex Wennberg for scoring that beauty of a goal at the end of the second that was rescinded for being offside.

Three stars of the game

⭐️ Warren Foegele (2G)

⭐️⭐️ Leon Draisaitl (1G, 3A)

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stuart Skinner (SV%: .926)
