Kraken @ Lightning RECAP: McCann cleans up another OT winner!

This team may not be as bad as their record, but they sure are trying to kill me while trying to prove it!

But first, the Highlights!

Game Notes:

  • The TOI leader for your Seattle Kraken tonight was Vince Dunn who logged 26:45
  • The Kraken had a lot of the same things that’ve sunk their games happen to them, but this was an otherwise strong effort. That first period was immaculate; 20 shots on goal is good for some levels of the game for an entire game and they got it in the first 20 minutes! They even kept up the pressure in spite of Tampa scoring in the 2nd period! 3rd period was dicey and once again they sat on a lead until it snapped in half, but that’s what they have a Jared McCann for!
  • The Kraken seem to be magnets for bad bounces; the game-tying goal was some cosmic insanity that seemed destined to ensure we went to overtime. Mercifully, that seemed to be the universe’s final gift to Tampa, as they hit two posts in the late 3rd and also in overtime, which gave the Kraken all the chances they needed to finish this one out.
  • Three Kraken finished tonight’s game with two points, and in an explosion of special teams offense, went 2 for 3 on the man-advantage. Seems like a recipe for success for the team to get multiple guys going at once, even if some of them were repeat customers from previous wins.
  • Grubauer finished with a .919 SV%; perfectly respectable, and it would be nice if this team would play for him the way they play for Joey Daccord.
  • For real though, I would very much like it if the Kraken buried their opponents again? That was a fun part of last season that didn’t receive much repeat play so far. I’d like that to come back.
  • 5 points out of 8 through this rough road trip? I think I can call that an unambiguous win. Especially with the scheduling at long last lightening up on Seattle once they come home.

Lets give a hand to…

  • Kailer Yamamoto! The local(ish) boy had an excellent night despite limited minutes; he finished with a goal, an assist, and the first star of the game. I feel this fella should probably receive a little more ice time beyond 9 minutes; his ability to become unnoticed in the slot is something the Kraken have desperately needed in this early season.
  • Jaden Schwartz! The second of the Kraken’s trio of 2 point getters tonight; logging two assists.
  • Yanni Gourde! Had an absolutely excellent goal in transition; rolling through the Tampa defense with ease. Great job, Pepper Pot!
  • Brian Dumoulin! For getting the ball rolling on a great shot!
  • The Power Play for being good! It’s weird that we’re here, but we are! 2/3 is very efficient and I’d like to see more of it!
  • Jared McCann! Absolutely phenomenal player. Thank goodness he’s on this team. He had the game winner, and an assist on Yanni Gourde’s goal.
  • Philipp Grubauer! I wish this team would reward your efforts more like this, but if this win and a .919 SV% are any consolation, I sincerely hope you accept it.

The NaturalStatTrick.com Charts!

Seattle had a field day against the Lightning. This is what I wanna see more of.

More of this please and thank you!

Finally, the Kraken return home and their schedule lightens up a bit. They come home on Thursday to face the Nashville Predators, and that game is at 7pm PT.

We will see you there, thank you for reading, and as ever

Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.
