The Seattle Kraken play their first ever game at Climate Pledge Arena on Saturday night at 7pm. Tickets to the game are, as expected, pretty difficult to come by. But never fear, you can still watch your favorite team on TV from the comfort of your own home.
What channel is the game on?
Well, this is where it gets tricky. While ROOT Sports NW will carry the majority of Kraken games for regional fans (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and parts of Montana) there will be another 13 national games which they will not have the rights to broadcast. Saturday’s home opener is one of them.
The game will be available via streaming services ESPN+ and Hulu Live and broadcast on CBC.
Note that that’s the company’s streaming service and not their regular cable channel. If you want to stream the first Kraken game and you don’t get CBC, you’ll have to get a subscription. It’s an odd choice by the league, leaving the very first game at a brand new arena almost completely off of American television, but regardless, it’s what we’re getting. And please note that it is in fact the league, not the team, that made this decision—so direct your ire accordingly.
If you have cable through Xfinity, you should be able to find the game on CBC—channel 619 for local subscribers. It will be the evening game in Saturday’s Hockey Night in Canada. For DirecTv subscribers, you’re out of luck and will have to try out ESPN+.
You can subscribe to ESPN+ for $6.99/month, or if you’re also a Disney fan you can try the Disney bundle for $13.99/month. That includes Disney+, ESPN+, and basic Hulu (with ads, and no Hulu live). Subscribe to either one here.
