As reported by Kate Shefte (Seattle Times), Coach Dave Hakstol said Vince Dunn will not play tonight against the Winnipeg Jets after suffering a dangerous hit by Martin Pospisil during last night’s game against Calgary.
Dunn did not return after his with 6:19 remaining in the game. Coach Hakstol said Dunn will travel back to Seattle with the team and be evaluated here.
Pospisil is having a hearing tomorrow with NHL player safety, and while it is difficult to predict how the NHL will hand out discipline, I do expect him to be suspended.
In addition, Alexander Wennberg will miss his second consecutive game for trade-related reasons. Wennberg is rumored to go to the Rangers or Avalanche, with the Rangers being the more likely of the two destinations.
It is interesting that Wennberg is the only name that’s really getting any traction, even though Seattle has other potentially attractive players on expiring contracts. Could the Wennberg trade be an isolated incident and not part of a broader fire sale?
Tonight’s game against the Jets is Seattle’s last game before Friday’s noon (pacific) trade deadline.
