Predators @ Kraken RECAP: Kraken spread the wealth in 4-2 WIN!

This was an otherwise pretty solid, normal, strong win for your Seattle Kraken!

That felt weird to say after all that nonsense in October, but that’s why they play the games!

But first, the Highlights!

Game Notes

  • Your TOI leader was Adam Larsson, with 23:14 logged!
  • This was just about the most complete game the Kraken can say they’ve played this year; They forechecked hard, they got a power play goal, their second period slump was much, much, much less overwhelming and was almost immediately undone by Brian Dumoulin responding quickly. They even kept up the pressure in the 3rd period and got some exceptional play from Philipp Grubauer. Hard to really fault anything beyond maybe the penalty kill, which went 2/5, but that’s still a pretty solid performance in general!
  • That said, if I have to nitpick anything, the penalties themselves were pretty gnarly; the mere fact that Philipp Grubauer, the goaltender who is supposed to tend the goal, got a tripping penalty and then immediately got a stinger from making said foolish penalty is absolutely silly. Larsson even did some lasting damage to Gustav Nyquist, who had to find his tooth after it was dislodged from his high stick. Taking 2 minor penalties in the first five minutes of the game is not ideal, and against stronger offenses this could backfire tremendously.
  • Yet another pair of players who get 2 points tonight and I think that’s gonna be the way the Kraken are for the rest of the year; their strength has always been their depth, so it stands to reason that someone on every line has to contribute at some point.
  • Aside from Grubauer taking a mystifying penalty, he was on point: a tidy .941 SV% on 32 saves is a great night at the office for german gentlemen such as himself.
  • Another quiet night for Matty Beniers but don’t fret; while he was 50% on faceoffs, he was strong on possession all night. The goal is coming! When it does, there will be much rejoicing and many more to come; he’s doing most of the right things in order to get it. He just needs the puck luck.

Let’s Give a hand to…

  • Justin Schultz! Two primary assists on the night and both of them exceptional.
  • Brian Dumoulin! Who had the go-ahead goal right after Nashville tied it in the 2nd. For once it’s nice to be on the other end of something like that!
  • Jared McCann! Who had an assist on Ollie Bjorkstrand’s goal, and then followed it up with a goal of his own. Was a force to be reckoned with as per usual.
  • Yanni Gourde! led the forward corps in shots and had an assist. He was, as he often is, a treat to watch.
  • Philipp Grubauer! Kept the Kraken in some particularly gruesome defensive zone shifts late in the game and had one of his strongest performances as a Kraken to date. First star well earned!

A fairly even game that goaltending and good forechecking won the day for the good guys!

The Kraken get a day off, and then host the Calgary Flames on Saturday night! That game drops the puck at 7pm PT!

We will see you there, thank you for reading and as always
