Kraken vs. Flyers RECAP: Seattle gets 4th straight win in OT thriller!

LET’S GO OUTSIDE.

But first, the Highlights!:

Game Notes

  • Your Time on Ice leader tonight was Adam Larsson, who logged 24:48 tonight!
  • This was a shockingly low-event affair, both teams had less than 30 shots apiece. That was exactly what the Kraken needed to win. They turned all those Flyers players who were coming hot off of putting the Vancouver Canucks in a blender into just another guy. A talented guy! But just a guy. That allowed the Kraken to slowly crawl their way back into the game, waiting for the right opportunity as they slowly cranked up the even-strength play until the Flyers were on the backfoot by the third period. Then they got their opportunity on the power play. From there on, it was smooth sailing. It is admittedly extremely odd to talk about the Kraken being a team that can play rope-a-dope style hockey given what they’ve gone through, but it’s who they are now.
  • Should also give credit to the Kraken offense for basically laying eggs on Carter Hart’s front doorstep with how often they ended up
  • I just loved Ollie Bjorkstrand’s hustle in overtime. His stick-handling and patience had the Philadelphia defenser in a bad, bad way. Deep in a hell they made just for them. He had a great game and we’ll give him his roses tonight later.
  • Burakovsky’s return heralded a lot of good things for this team, though him making the kinds of blocks he was making just had me at multiple points going “you JUST got back. Knock that off.”
  • Penalty Kill coming up huge once again! Seattle’s PK finished the night with a 3-for-3 on kills. The Flyers Power Play is kind of ass right now, so maybe we can chalk up some of that to the opponent’s issues. I will give the Kraken clemency on their first power play. They won the game, after all.
  • At this point I’m just gonna leave the Joey Daccord part to where we give out Flowers. He earned it. I will say that home games where the Kraken win these days are the best because it means that this absolutely absurd t-shirt of Adam Larsson with a bowl-cut tends to show up.
  • The Kraken have, improbably, found a way to win their fourth game in a row and gotten to their 8th game with a point. They’re now a mere 2 points back of the 2nd wildcard spot, and now deep in the thick of vying for that coveted place in the standings. 2 points on Monday would go a long way…
  • Dress Rehearsal’s over. Now it’s time to get ready to go outside.

Lets Give A Hand To…

  • Oliver Bjorkstrand! The Maestro was responsible for the primary assist on both Dunn’s goal and then on Justin Schultz’s game winner! He was kryptonite for the Flyers, it was awesome.
  • Vinnie Dunn! Got the ball rolling with a howitzer-shot from the point on Hart that made it through. That brings him up to 5 points in his last 3 games, which is just good enough for my taste so that we can all forgive him for his indiscretions in the first period.
  • Justin Schultz! has had some uh…issues as of late. He’s been on-ice or somewhere in the realm of responsible for a goal against for the last five games, and he’s needed something to build himself back up. Ollie Bjorkstrand was more than willing to help his teammate out. Still gonna need a lot more from him, but this is a good start.
  • Joey Daccord! Another decent night at the office for Mr. Daccord; 27 saves, a .964 SV%, and yet another first star. Can’t draw it up better. Since I was asked over at Mr. Musk’s Deathspiral Website, that also means since his takeover of the position of starter since Grubauer’s injury, he’s currently rocking a .942 SV% since December 10th. That’s damn good.

It’s very funny to look at this and go “Yeah, that’s around the time they picked it up. I agree with that.”

The Kraken were turning the slot into a second home for themselves all night long. Great work on their part.
