Kraken sign Maine goaltender Victor Östman to ELC

College Free Agency roars on, and while Quinnipiac’s wunderkind Colin Graf has yet to make his choice, the Kraken aren’t bothering to wait with bated breath, having already begun their spending spree earlier this week, and continued it by signing the University of Maine’s goaltender, Victor Östman to a Two Year, $850,000 AAV Entry Level Contract!

Östman, a 6’4 resident of Orono by way of Danderyd, Sweden, has been the starting goalie for the Black Bears for three years in the hyper-competive Hockey East Conference. In that time, he’s managed to stay at or slightly above or below .900 SV% in 20+ starts through his Sophomore through Senior years, though his Senior year was marred by some rough patches that eventually lost him his spot. In fairness, playing in Hockey East is rough when UMass Lowell, Providence, BC and BU are all conference games you have to prepare for; teams that have spent an outsized amount of time in the top half of the College Hockey rankings at one point or another over his time as goaltender.

He’s currently playing with Coachella on a Try-Out, so we’ll see if he manages to stick with them after this season, or join the Kansas City Mavericks in the ECHL.

Either way, mildly late on it, but better late than never…

Welcome Victor to The Deep!
