Game Notes

  • Your time on ice leader tonight with 23:04? Vince Dunn! That’s right, Vince Dunn is back!
  • Shane Wright didn’t score a beauty of a goal on a give-and-go with Jordan Eberle, assisting on the goal and collecting his 700th career point. Ha ha, just kidding — April Fools! That absolutely happened.

The thing I love about this is that Eberle looks like he’s shooting all the way, but Wright keeps his stick on the ice to receive the pass anyway. It’s a great pass by Wright in the first place to get it to Eberle, but he stays with it. He has such a high hockey IQ and that’s going to serve him very well in the NHL. Wright had 15:06 of ice time tonight and was the recipient of the Davy Jones hat. He’s going to be just fine.

(An aside: playing “Man in the Box” is a very weird choice after a goal. Some very questionable decisions by their stadium DJ, starting with their somnia-inducing goal song. But I digress.)

  • Matty Beniers and Shane Wright scored in the same game. How cool is that? Hopefully we’ll see a lot more of that for many years, preferably during deep playoff runs. Matty added an assist on a Bjorkstrand goal for his 100th career point.
  • Tye Kartye thought he was getting in on the scoring in the youth movement, but his goal was (correctly) disallowed after an offside review.
  • Yanni Gourde took a Vince Dunn shot right in the umm…the midsection is what the broadcast called it. Sure. It’s a bit lower than that, but close enough. He left the game but did return.
  • This is probably not the best thing for Seattle long-term, who has fallen to 10th in the draft order. But hey, at least winning feels good in the short-term.
  • A Mariners and a Kraken win on the same day? In this economy?
  • Look who was the best player on the ice tonight!
