The Seattle Kraken announced that Vince Dunn and Brandon Montour are the new alternate captains for the 2026-27 season. They join longtime captain Jordan Eberle and existing alternates Matty Beniers and Adam Larsson. This announcement comes ahead of the team’s first official workout on September 17.
Eberle has been captain since 2024.
Jaden Schwartz had long been an alternate captain, beginning in the Kraken’s inaugural 2021-22 season, but his move to the Avalanche in free agency left a vacancy. Previously, Yanni Gourde was also an alternate captain, though his position went unfilled after he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2025.
Dunn and Montour both bring leadership to the locker room. Dunn is entering his sixth season with the Kraken and has gained a reputation as the player who stands up for his teammates. Montour is entering his third season with the team and quickly gained a leadership reputation. It’s worth noting that both players previously won a Stanley Cup: Dunn with the Blues in 2019 and Montour with the Panthers in 2024.
