Say it ain’t so, Dumo!
The Kraken have moved on from defender Brian Dumoulin as they’ve traded him to Anaheim for a 4th round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Dumoulin was acquired last offseason as a depth option for the blueline, and for his part he did that job pretty well, finishing the season with 16 points, and being one of their better shutdown players.
However, the Kraken’s youth movement has made it clear that while he’s good to have for a year…they really only needed him for the one year. With Ryker Evans set to join the team in a full-time capacity, they needed to make room for him. Further, getting Dumoulin’s contract off the books means there’s an extra $3.15 million that Ron Francis can work with to sign Matty Beniers and/or Eeli Tolvanen. This trade brings the free cap space up to $12,406,310; according to CapFriendly. It also makes sure that the Kraken have at least one middle round in the last three drafts that they can pick two players in…assuming they don’t move the pick at some point.
Thank you Brian for all that you’ve done for the Kraken, and we wish you luck in Anaheim!
…Just not when Seattle is playing Anaheim.
