By far the coolest place in Seattle this past weekend was at Kraken Community Iceplex.

Part of the reason was escaping a heat advisory with near-record high temperatures. A bigger reason was the 5th annual Seattle Pride Classic, hosted by the Seattle Pride Hockey Association. According to a press release, SPC25 is the world’s largest pride ice hockey tournament, featuring 20 teams and nearly 300 LGBTQ+ athletes. More than 60% of players identify as LGBTQ+, and 55% of participants identify as a female or non-binary.

I spoke with SPHA VP Joey Gale about the importance of the event, and why the 2025 edition differed from the first four, in this Kraken Reaction.
