Seeing Is Believing: Stretchy Montour, Leggy Tolvanen, Chatty Grubauer…

Taylor Codomo Photo

Seattle Kraken action images taken by our ace DJLR photogs wonderfully enhance our game stories. And sometimes, the photos ARE the story. Take a look at this Kraken collection shot over the past month by Taylor Codomo and you’ll see what we mean.

As always, the captions are my fault.

Joey Daccord

Hey Joey, what’s the rush?

Oh, right. This time, instead of being the goalie in the pregame shooting drills, you ARE the shooter.

Truculence

Defined by Dictionary.com as “the quality or attitude of being aggressively hostile; barbarous, cruel, or brutally harsh.” Or, may we add, “Just another night on ice at Climate Pledge Arena.”

Brandon Montour

We’re at a loss to even describe what warmup exercise Brandon Montour is practicing here. And from the looks of it, Philipp Grubauer isn’t sure he wants to know, either.

As we’ve just observed, hockey players sometimes lose their heads. But it’s not supposed to happen in warmups.

Whew! False alarm. You had us worried, Brandon.

Discussions

Left image: The linesperson is telling McCann, Montour & Stephenson, “Look, guys, I don’t care which one of you takes the faceoff, but SOMEBODY has to take the faceoff.”

Right image: Kraken goalie Philipp Grubauer and Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider will be teammates for the German Hockey Team at the Winter Olympics in February. Grubauer is telling Seider, “Mo, if we room together, I get the bed near the window.”

Mason Marchment

It’s coincidence that the Kraken won their first four games after trading Mason Marchment to Columbus on Dec. 19. Isn’t it? So this is our last chance to share, in visual form, the 29-game Seattle Kraken version of the Mason Marchment experience.

Marchment saw agitating opponents as a necessary part of his job.

Officials saw agitating Marchment as a necessary part of their job.

Ladies and gentlemen, Mason Marchment has left the building.

(When he returns, with whatever team he’s playing for then, because the Blue Jackets aren’t likely to keep him, I wonder what his Kraken tribute video will look like?)

Best Of The Rest

These photos don’t have a category to belong to, but they’re too good not to share.

Like this shot (left) of Kraken forward Eeli Tolvanen – more accurately, Tolvanen’s legs. He had a painful collision at the Kraken bench.

Taylor said the photo reminded her of The Wizard Of Oz, when Dorothy’s house came smashing down on the Wicked Witch of the East, and her shoes and legs were all you could see. Fortunately, Tolvanen’s fate wasn’t quite so dire; he recovered enough to score two empty-net goals and add an assist in Sunday’s Kraken victory over Philadelphia.

Referee Kelly Sutherland asking Philipp Grubauer, “Are you SURE you’re not sitting on the puck? Because I think you’re sitting on the puck. And we can’t start play until we have a puck.”

As Kraken center Matty Beniers can attest, hockey has its ups and downs. In the left image, Beniers sees the guy he forget to pay back the $10 he borrowed. So he tries to dive underneath the pile of players to hide. In the right image, he’s jumping for joy after scoring a last-second goal to tie the L.A. Kings.
