So! That game on Wednesday night was fun! It was maybe a little anticipated given the Charge’s struggles this year, but it was fun!
Now…the Torrent need to put the lessons they’ve learned over the last few games to the test, because now they face a genuinely scary foe; the league leading, undefeated Boston Fleet.
The Fleet lost the player that most casual fans had heard of, among quite a few others to Vancouver and Seattle, and so there was some understandable doubt that they’d be competing for much this year. What do you do when the most potent scorers on your team leave?
Well, if the Fleet are to be believed, just dont let the other team score.
Boston has made itself a complete nightmare to forecheck against: keeping shots to the outside, crowding the net like hornets, letting their defensive might; Megan Keller and Haley Winn have held their blue line down, and have allowed their forwards to go work at scoring chances without concern.
And once you get past all of that…there she is. 5’5, maybe 155 pounds with all her gear on if it got caught in the rain. A proud product of the USA. Given how she’s playing, it feels like they managed to shrink the net around her.
She is probably Team USA’s starter at this upcoming Olympics.
She is almost certainly THEE best goalie in the PWHL.
She is the Green Monster.
She is Aerin Frankel.
She….is not starting this game.
Meaning that the Torrent need to test her backup, Abbey Levy, and find out what makes her tick, and more importantly find out if shes as okay with the usual hail of pucks the Fleet let through that Frankel is.
