Seattle Kraken select Jagger Firkus with the No. 35 pick

With their first pick of the second round, the Seattle Kraken selected right winger Jagger Firkus from the Western Hockey League’s Moose Jaw Warriors.

Firkus scores a lot of goals — he netted 36 in 66 games last season, 14th-most in the WHL. He ranked 25th in the EOTP Consensus rankings, and if he was 2 inches taller likely would’ve been gone before now. The 18-year old is listed at 5’10, 154 lbs.

Behind Jordan Eberle, the Kraken are pretty thin on the right wing right now. Joonas Donskoi underwhelmed last season, and while Karson Kuhlman plays a solid 200-foot game, he won’t put up the kind of point totals Firkus is capable of. Expect Firkus to head back to the WHL next season, but he could make the big club as soon as the 2023-24 season if all goes well.
