The Seattle Kraken will continue to be at the forefront of actually trying to make hockey for everyone this Saturday night when the host the Calgary Flames. It will be the first Pride Night in team history, and we expect it won’t be the last. The game will feature rainbow flags galore — projected on the ice, on the boards, and on stick tape — but one place you won’t find a rainbow is on the special jerseys Kraken players will wear during warmups.
To design these jerseys, the Kraken partnered with Glynn Rosenberg, a non-binary local artist responsible for several beautiful murals all over downtown Seattle. Rosenberg didn’t roll with the usual colors seen on Pride Night in other cities — instead, they focused on the colors of the trans flag. It resulted in a gorgeous and unique logo design that will let members of the trans community know they are welcome in the world of hockey and the city of Seattle, as they should be.
Merchandise featuring designs by Rosenberg will be available at Kraken team stores all across town, and the warmup jerseys will be auctioned off during Saturday’s game. Proceeds will benefit the One Roof Foundation and the Seattle Pride Hockey Association. The Kraken will also partner with the Seattle Pride Hockey Association in June when the Kraken Community Iceplex hosts the second annual Seattle Pride Classic.
