The Landlubber’s Guide to the Edmonton Oilers

Hey you. You’re swept up in all this Seattle Kraken hype. You want to know more about hockey but don’t know where to start. Well, we want to help make these games easy and fun for you to watch.

Throughout the season, we’ll release Landlubber’s Guides designed with the new fan in mind. This includes basic need-to-know info for you to absorb before you watch Kraken games and highlights.

Let’s dive in to the Edmonton Oilers.

Are they any good?

Yes, very good! They’ve only lost one game so far this season (6-1-0). And with Connor McDavid on the roster, NHL fans know they can never sleep on the Oilers.

The Seattle Kraken have more data with the Oilers than with other NHL teams having played them twice in the preseason. The Kraken lost the first game decisively and won the second game in overtime so… you know… the squids are making progress!

Who should I look out for?

Connor McDavid (#97, Center) – The undisputed best player in the NHL. There’s not much else to say about Connor McDavid besides that. He’s the fastest skater and his dangles are absolutely filthy. McDavid does insane things with a puck in every Oilers game so keep an eye out for that.

Leon Draisatl (#29, Center) – Draisatl is often paired McDavid as a deadly goal-scoring combo but he’s a phenomenal player on his own as well. He’s already racked up five goals and eight assists in the seven games played this season.

Any Seattle ties?

Odds and Ends

Puck drops at 6:30 PST tonight at Rodgers Arena Centre Place in Edmonton, broadcast on ROOT Sports NW for regional subscribers and ESPN+ for out-of-market fans.
