Kraken place Philipp Grubauer on injured reserve

The Kraken officially placed goaltender Philipp Grubauer on injured reserve on Tuesday morning. He’ll miss at least the rest of the week before being eligible to return to the lineup next Tuesday against Calgary. He left last Friday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche in the third period after sustaining a non-contact injury to his lower body. Martin Jones came in in relief and picked up the win, but couldn’t do the same as the starter in the next game against Chicago.

In Grubauer’s absence, the Kraken have recalled Joey Daccord from Coachella Valley. Daccord spent most of his time in the AHL last year, posting a .925 save percentage (tied for second best among all AHL goaltenders) in 34 games played. He has allowed 10 goals on 83 shots through three games in Coachella Valley this year.

What about waivers?

A notable talking point during the preseason was the fact that Daccord was eligible to be claimed on waivers ahead of the season, meaning that when the Kraken sent him down to Coachella Valley, every NHL club had the option of claiming him and adding him to their roster. We saw it happen with another Kraken goaltender instead — Magnus Hellberg.

The good news for Daccord fans is that he shouldn’t have to pass through waivers once again so long as Grubauer’s injury doesn’t linger for long. From the invaluable resource that is Cap Friendly:
