Kraken assign Kole Lind, Max McCormick to Charlotte Checkers

Seattle placed forwards Kole Lind and Max McCormick on waivers on Wednesday morning. On Thursday, the Kraken’s American Hockey League affiliate Charlotte Checkers announced they had cleared waivers and would be joining the minor league squad for the rest of training camp.

McCormick signed a one-year, two-way deal with Seattle on September 30th. He’s got some experience in Charlotte, playing 56 games with the Checkers in the 2019-20 season. That year he totaled 16 goals and led the team in penalty minutes by a wide margin with 120.

Lind, Seattle’s expansion selection from the nearby Vancouver Canucks, had an outside shot to make the NHL club this year, but failed to show enough during the preseason relative to some of the other youngsters on the team. Lind did not register a point in four games of preseason action, but the 22-year old former 2nd-round pick (33rd overall) still has plenty of time to develop into an NHL starter.

The Checkers kick off their season on October 16th, the same night Seattle will visit the Columbus Blue Jackets. Charlotte is technically still the defending Calder Cup Champion, as the premier AHL trophy hasn’t been handed out since 2019 due to shortened seasons caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. You can stream every Checkers game this year with AHL.tv for $35 if you want to keep up with the “what’s next” in the Kraken organization.
