The young PWHL Seattle squad isn’t finalized, but they’ve already got one hell of a player.
The PWHL Seattle squad announced today that they’ve signed their first player; the bafflingly unprotected-by-Boston Hilary Knight!
IT’S KNIGHT TIME, SEATTLE! 😎

2025 PWHL Points co-leader, four-time Olympic Medalist and ten-time World Champion Hilary Knight has signed a one-year Standard Player Agreement.

Hilary Knight, a native of Idaho, is probably one of the most decorated women in the sport playing today; starting in international competition for the Red, White and Blue back in 2006, and having been a major part of 10 Gold Medal performances by the United States in Women’s World Championship competition (including the nice rounding out of the 10th this year), One Olympic Gold Medal, Two NCAA titles with Wisconsin, Championships in both of the predecessor leagues of the PWHL, and three US women’s hockey player of the year awards.
Really, if there’s another player who fits her impressive resume, it’s probably her Canadian counterpart in Marie-Philippe Poulin. Very few others come close. She herself just wrapped up a Forward of the year season with the offensively-challenged Boston Fleet with a 29 point in 30 game season. Knight played in Seattle earlier this year as part of the Takeover Tour in a shootout win against the Montreal Victoire as one of the few highlights of a frustrating Fleet season…
…and her reward was being exposed in the PWHL expansion draft. Cold world, these ice sports.
This signing is a huge pickup for the still-in-progress squad, which still has a few days to make free signings from the Free Agent pool leading up to Monday’s expansion draft, where they can sign up to five players to get the rough idea of their squad together. Given the painful cuts that PWHL teams had to make with only three protected players to choose from, PWHL Seattle could end up being a very interesting squad out of the gate.
But that’s days away, let’s take the time to welcome Hilary Knight back to Seattle!
