Kraken vs. Predators RECAP: Daccord gets a 24-save shutout in 3-0 WIN!

Thus ends the longest homestand of the year. I’ll miss these Squids as they make their way around the country, but I know they’ll come back soon. After all, they’ve got a bunch of home-and-homes upcoming.

But first, the Highlights!

Game Notes

  • Your TOI Leader was Adam Larsson, who finished the night with 22:34 logged.
  • I guess in order for the Kraken to play a fairly normal game, the other team needs to experience something truly unusual to counterbalance it. The Predators got called from almost the opening faceoff with the extremely rare Illegal Lineup penalty; where you are penalized a minor for not playing your advertised starting lineup or starting the wrong line. This penalty rarely, if ever gets called for all the reasons you’d assume, but good on the Kraken video department, who Dan Bylsma credited as the ones who caught it.
  • Otherwise? This was every bit the Preds as advertised, although you never really get a look at something this confounding every day. The Preds had an overwhelming majority of the shot-attempts of the game, and many of whom were from fairly dangerous parts of the ice. The difference is that when the Kraken got their chances, it became overwhelmingly clear that they had the lion’s share of far, far more dangerous shots, and only really had to overcome Juuse Saros.
  • I’m gonna talk more about him in the praise section but man, Brandon Montour is a pickup that can save your entire job if you do it at the right time; He was rewarded tonight for his hard work, but man he’s just been that special secret sauce that the Kraken defense has needed in order to remain as dangerous as it can be.
  • Speaking of, Juuse Saros was clearly not the problem for Nashville; he was dynamite…Just not dynamite enough to lift the Preds into accidentally scoring.
  • Well, they did, but the good and just and always right and I have never ever had a bad thing to say about this video review people said otherwise, preserving Joey Daccord’s shutout. Thank you, o benevolent review dieties; I will absolutely spurn your name the minute it goes the other way.

Let’s Give A Hand to…

  • Daniel Sprong! who got his first goal back with the Kraken off an absolutely dynamite feed by Chandler Stephenson. Great to have ya back.
  • Brandon Montour! Who absolutely rinsed Saros with a lightning fast attack of the net.
  • Chandler Stephenson! Who had an assist in every goal scored tonight, and pretty much all of ’em were gorgeous. I loved the Montour goal a lot, but if I’m being perfectly honest, I think the best of the three had to be the opening tally for Spronger, as he had the play recognition to find an open man with a slick pass. Well done, first star well-earned.
  • Joey Daccord! For a damn fine 24 save shutout, his first of the year! The Mayor was absolutely phenomenal.
  • Dan Bylsma! For being such a good sport about getting a towel thrown on him on accident by Jaden Schwartz that he made light of it at the post-game presser. Get ready for a fun and involved practice, Jaden!

The Kraken have finished up their homestand, and are now hitting the road to take on the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday afternoon. That game drops the puck at 1pm PT.

For those of you on the west-side of Washington, we at DJLR sincerely wish you a very “Get power by the time you wake up” and “Stay Warm”. That bomb cyclone wreaked havoc across the ocean-facing side of the state, and we sincerely hope you are safe, your lodgings are not damaged to the point you can’t stay, and that you remain warm in these cold times.

Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.
