I mean 3-1 for the preseason isn’t bad.
Still would’ve liked the win, though.
But first, some highlights
Game Notes
- Your TOI leader was Brandon Montour with 24:17
- Regardless of the result, this was a fun hockey game. Both teams were backchecking as though it were recently explained to them and both goaltenders were doing a lot of heroics to save their teams or getting insanely lucky. Tragically the Vancouver Canucks got it together enough to actually get the dub and then Jake Debrusk’s keister found a scoring touch. The name of the game was two teams trying very, very hard to just score and almost nothing else. Insanely stupid game, cannot wait for these two to meet in the regular season.
- Seriously there’s gonna be a lot of defensemen hearing about their effort tonight on either side because oh baby was there some blown coverage. It felt like every other shift the Kraken had a breakout.
- Lineup wise, the top line did exactly what you expected they would and played their asses off. Matty, Kokko, and McCann showed real promise as a line and that is worth exploring again. The Catton, Winterton and Wright line seemed to also punch above their weight and in my opinion deserves at least a couple of looks through the opening weekend. The rest…I feel definitely could be better. The 2nd and 4th lines got mulched, and while I was not exactly surprised at the 2nd line’s faults, I think the 4th’s is a much easier fix; make the left wing interchangeable, put Molgaard back in at C, right as rain.
- Discipline was a part of the game, and let me tell you; it was optional for the Kraken. The Kraken got twice as many penalties, got into all sorts of kerfuffles for the second game in a row, and gave an otherwise fairly talented group of dudes on Vancouver the chance to even this up. That’s gotta get wrapped up before next Friday.
- I’m just gonna say now that the Kraken Defense is looking very uneven, and with how the PK looked, I really hope that’s just jitters, because getting out from under that could be a real big problem if they don’t manage to pull it together.
- I’m just gonna show you the heatmap for shots now for understanding why both goaltenders walked away from a sub-.900 SV%:

- I’m just gonna say Joey probably should get from fruit baskets from some of these players, dude.
Was there anything good about tonight’s game?
yeah!
- Brandon Montour! Monty had the first goal of the game and a tally on Bobby McMann’s goal. Speaking of which…
- Bobby McMann! The McMann scoring machine appears completely unabated between last season and now. The
- Berkly Catton! He got himself a silky smooth backhander goal on the rush with Ryan Winterton!
- Ryker Evans! Didn’t have any points, but he was one of a very small group of defenders in Deep Blue who was above water possession-wise and I think that counts for something in a game like this!

That’s it for preseason! The Seattle Kraken finish their trial run with a 3-1 record, and all of that will go directly into the wastebin as we wait on the final cuts from camp, and the finalized Seattle Kraken roster…for now.
Their first game of the season will be against Calgary on October 1st. That will begin at 6pm PT.
We’ll see you then! And as always…
Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win
