Know Your Enemy
- Calgary has won all but one of their preseason contests so far, and most of them have been by two goals or more.
- Adam Klapka has impressed so far in camp, having a couple of strong contests resulting in goals, but don’t be fooled; the Flames are spreading the wealth well in these preseason contests.
- The Flames have rotated through a number of goaltenders through camp, but already Dustin Wolf appears like he’s making it clear he’s sticking around on the main roster if at all possible. Otherwise, Dan Vladar and Devin Cooley have also seen action in net.
Game Notes
Okay, so when preseason began, the Kraken kind of ran into a brick wall and that set a bit of a sour note for how things were going in losing to the Calgary Flames 6-1.
In retrospect, maybe it was a harbinger or things to come, because Calgary has yet to take a regulation loss in this preseason.
They have largely blown their competition straight out of the water, dropped multiple six goal games on their competition, and their sole loss was an OT thriller against Vancouver. All this from a team projected to be attempting a crash and burn of their NHL Roster.
Funny how that works out when there’s open roster spots, right?
Either way, the Kraken need to look at this game as a major litmus test for those still at camp. The Squids are rounding into form, but now it needs to be applied in just such a way that Seattle can both shock a team with serious momentum at their side. Part of it is solving Dustin Wolf; Calgary’s rapidly emerging rookie goalie, who has impressed in this early part of the calendar, the rest is containing an attack that seems laser focused on a strong transition game and near constant motion in the offensive zone. If they can gum up the skating lanes on the Flames, they can and will be forced to reckon with the fact that they haven’t really had the puck all that much. A dangerous place to be in this NHL.
This should be a great opportunity for a little revenge, so let’s go get it! LETS GO KRAKEN!
