March madness in June? I think we can get behind it!
The Kraken announced today that they have picked up Mason Marchment from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a 2026 3rd round pick and a 2025 4th round pick that previously belonged…to Dallas.
Marchment has been a fantastic story throughout the league; he began playing professionally in 2016 after playing no major junior hockey until he was 19, and entered the league in 2020 with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He then made his way to the Panthers; and tied a team record for points in a game against the Blue Jackets. It was finally in Dallas that he found himself; having come up with two back to back 22 goal seasons in a complete and mostly complete season!
Of course, that’s only part of the story; Marchment’s goalscoring capabilities are often overshadowed by his preposterous ability to get his teammates goals; as he’s had multiple 4-5 point nights; almost all of it coming from assists. He also tended to make a ton of fans through his play both with the puck and away from it; being a willing and able provider of muscle when needed. That has gotten him in trouble every so often, but he’s otherwise been a solid player.

He’s also a helluva playoff performer, but we’ve got a long road before we can even think of something like that.
For me personally? That’s a pretty damn solid pickup for the depth, and will more than likely get people on his side given his playstyle and yes, his dimensions of 6’4 and 220 that make that playstyle very, very useful to him.
Let’s all welcome Mason to The Deep!
