Made some Hákarl out of that squad.
But First, the Highlights!
Game Notes
- Your TOI Leader was Brandon Montour by only a second, as he logged 20:45
- It’s weird to sit here and try to come up with something other than “San Jose isn’t very good right now”, because while that is true, it doesn’t quite embody all of the ways Seattle was able to attack San Jose’s part of the ice, because there was so much of it for them. Seattle found way upon way to connect passes that otherwise wouldn’t have and break up possession in a way few other teams have allowed, and it really got the Sharks frustrated. It was fun to see massive bombs from the point go through like they did!
- So frustrated that the final five minutes of the game was just an extended series of scrums with the refs handing out misconducts left and right just to calm things down. It’s not Seattle’s fault San Jose was giving up so much prime scoring real estate, stripes!
- Jokes aside, the last five minutes of the game were a clown car of bad decisions on both sides that inevitably led to the final minute scrums; play stupid games and all that…
- John Hayden and Zach Ostapchuk got misconducts for threatening to go before the puck was dropped. Why not just let them fight it out then kick ’em to the curb? You’ve already let one slugfest through. May as well make it two.
- What a night for Jared McCann, his second multi-point night and he looked dangerous throughout. Helluva game for him!
- No power plays scored tonight, but they really didn’t need it. Why bother when you can just steal the puck from players at the blueline and take slapshots?
- Joey had a lovely little game that ended with him sporting a .958 SV%. I wouldn’t say the single goal that San Jose got was great, but if that’s the only one you give up over 39 shots? That’s a solid game in my book. Great job from him!
Let’s give a hand to…
- Jared McCann, who had a major night; Two goals and an assist on his way to a 3 point night where he was all over the Sharks. A well deserved first star!
- Andre Burakovsky! Who’s finally found his way to double digit goals! He also had an assist to a two point night!
- Chandler Stephenson! who mugged Mario Ferraro for the puck and then hammered home a wonderful shot!
- Jason Schwartz! For doing the exact same thing that Stephenson did but instead doing it at the Sharks’ defensive blueline instead! Veteran move; do less work, get rewarded.
- Shane Wright may have only had an assist tonight, but it’s an assist that set up McCann for an absolute laser of a shot! So I will happily commend him for it!
- The Penalty Kill! Sharks couldn’t solve it in four tries. Probably for the best that
- Joey Daccord, because a .958 SV% on 40 shots, even if a good portion of them weren’t exactly high danger, is still a commendable effort.
