Kraken @ Senators RECAP: Seattle’s offense stalls out in 2-0 LOSS

The Kraken’s offense let them down badly as the Kraken lost the first game of a back-to-back against the Senators.

Maybe we should just avoid Ontario at all costs. That seems like the best use of our time.

Here is what passes for Highlights

Game Notes

  • Your TOI Leader for tonight was Ryker Evans, who finished the night with 22:53 logged.
  • The offense just did not have it tonight. Ottawa was more than willing to just shove a group of disorganized, completely inexcusably poor puck managing Seattle skaters around at their leisure as they simply could not find their way through the Ottawa defense nor win a single board battle. Seattle looked slow in the worst possible way, and that; more than anything else, was what killed them. Particularly from certain members of the top 6; who looked like any chemistry they had was completely done in. The fearlessness was gone…and frankly, that cannot be how it goes from here on out.
  • Of course, the big reason they were even able to begin cramming the Kraken into a barrel came from a goaltender interference call that was probably goaltender interference and was called goaltender interference but then the Sens were able to call it goaltender interference but not. Got it? Confused yet? Good. That’s the problem. Nick Cousins more than likely interfered with Philipp Grubauer, but it was uh….well…yeah. Goaltender interference is a disaster of a call and it hurt.
  • Once again, the biggest problem the Kraken Defense faces is that while they are able to get into the way of certain shots, they are either too slow to corral the shot, or they can’t find a way to re-establish possession. They are playing far, far, far too passive and it’s killing their ability to counterattack.
  • Philipp Grubauer had a .909 SV%, which for him is pretty alright, and in a real throwback of a game, he received absolutely zero help in terms of goal support. Why do you gotta do this poor guy like this, Seattle? He’s been nothing but cordial to you.
  • Hey! They stopped the Ottawa Power play from being a factor! What a damn shame that they actively shot themselves in the foot with the worst timed Too many men penalty I think I’ve ever seen. All versions of Too Many Men are a tragedy of bad timing, but man…with the Kraken actually sustaining pressure on the Senators, there’s simply no reason whatsoever for that. That can’t happen again.

Was there anything positive about this game?

Well…

  • The Penalty Kill was lights out again. It’s a real goddamn shame that the Kraken can’t bring that diligence to the rest of their defensive game, because they are doing that, if nothing else, very well.

…And that’s about it. This was a very disappointing game.

Just once I’d like for their ability to turn it all around in the third to translate into a win. Is that so much to ask?

No rest for the Kraken, as they’ll be headed to Boston to take on the Bruins tomorrow. That game is at 2pm PST.

We’ll see you there. And as always…
