It’s right around that time in the CHL Junior hockey season that teams begin mortgaging their futures in the desperate hope of winning their respective leagues and then hopefully going on to play for the Memorial Cup, and a Kraken prospect has once again been the subject of one of them.
The Kelowna Rockets announced today that they traded Caden Price for the low, low price of:
- ’07 born defender William Sharpe
- ’07 born goaltender Harrison Boettinger
- A fifth round pick in the 2025 CHL entry draft
- A sixth round pick in the 2025 CHL entry draft
- A first round pick in the 2026 CHL entry draft
- A fourth round pick in the 2026 CHL entry draft
- A fifth round pick in the 2027 CHL entry draft
Y’know, a reasonable price to pay for a point-per-game defenseman!

Trades in Canadian Junior like this are often done by squads who want to kickstart rebuilds as the often cyclical nature of Junior can be gotten ahead of quickly, while teams looking to win the entire league will happily sell their future in order to get a banner or even a Memorial Cup bid. Lethbridge right now is dead even with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL’s Central Division, and 6th in the WHL’s Eastern Conference. They’re likely to make the playoffs, but will probably want to load up in order to ensure that the Hurricanes have a better shot of surviving a grueling playoffs.
It also means unfortunately that Price is going to be coached by known racist dipstick Bill Peters, who had to resign in disgrace from the NHL after the Akim Aliu controversy broke in 2019, and was acquired by Peter Anholt; the man who just put together a Team Canada that people are very happy about and aren’t losing their minds over.
If nothing else, one could make a very strong argument he made a big impression at the World Juniors.
For what it’s worth, I wish Caden Price plenty of luck in Lethbridge, because the season only heats up ever more from here on out. Let’s keep that points streak going!
