I’ve looked through the analytics and can only assume the Kraken spotted the Canucks a couple of positives so they could have something to do at KCI tomorrow.
But first, the Highlights!
Game Notes
- Your TOI Leader was Ville Ottavainen, who played 20:40 tonight.
- It might just be preseason but man if I was a Canucks fan I would be very concerned about how easily the Kraken’s largely Firebirds-heavy roster steamrolled them. The goals the Canucks had were late and happened when the Kraken swapped goaltenders, and to be perfectly frank Vancouver just did not have it tonight. The Kraken meanwhile, had it pretty wrapped up by period 2; they were executing beautifully, they took hits to make plays, they got passes off into very intelligent places on the ice, the shots they took were dangerous, this was just a phenomenal game for the Kraken prospects.
- They didn’t factor much in the score, but Jagger Firkus and Eduard Sale had exceptional games for Seattle; both were well over 75% in terms of shot attempts and unblocked shot attempts for. They were all over the ice trying to make things happen, and usually when they were out there…they did!
- Oscar Fisker-Molgaard once again impressed in a game where he only really had one assist, but had plenty of opportunities to score and was pushing play in the right direction all night.
- A big caveat for this game is this: Vancouver is terrible. Even with their young guns getting on the scoresheet, they had some of their very best on the team tonight, and let me tell you; I didn’t notice Elias Pettersson was on that team at all until a quarter of the way through the 2nd period. Our neighbors to the north gotta strip this down to the studs and yet they insist on hanging onto guys well after their welcome has been worn out. I can sympathize with that, but man they look and played like wet, fresh swamp-ass.
- PK killed all but one penalty, and the power play was 2/4. Given how their competition was playing I think we can be honest and say they could’ve had more easily.
- Both Joey Daccord and Nikke Kokko shared the net tonight; Daccord the first half, Kokko the second. Daccord went 14 for 14 on saves and looked like he could’ve done it with his blocker tied to his fight strap. Meanwhile Nikke Kokko brought his usual level of decent play that also happened to involve some chaos; finishing with a perhaps less than ideal .667 SV%, but only on six shots, so it was hardly enough to get a decent sample on.
- That said you’re gonna be taking one of these preseason games nearly to the finish line, Nikke. Let’s settle down for next time.
Let’s Give A Hand To…
- Jacob Melanson! Who finished tonight with two assists and was a hound on the forecheck all night!
- Jake O’Brien! Who as it turns out is pretty good at this hockey thing! He finished his night with the final goal of the night and an assist on Jani Nyman’s goal. Speaking of which…
- Logan Morrison! Who had a fantastic one timer while completely undefended to get a power play goal!
- Ty Nelson! who put an absolute dagger past the entire Canucks. Good eye to get to that puck first, too!
- Cale Fleury, Ryan Lindgren, and Frederic Gaudreau! They were some of the few regulars to attend tonight’s contest amongst skaters, and if they were gonna play the Abbotsford Canucks; I would hope they walk away with a point!
- Both Goalies! For doing their best 🙂

Just a proper asskicking.
The Preseason continues tomorrow! With the Kraken heading out to Alberta to take on the Calgary Flames. That game is at 5pm PT.
We’ll see you there! And remember, even in preseason…
Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.
