Welcome back! There’s been some cuts at camp, and while I don’t agree with all of them (Firkus, Nyman), I recognize we gotta get this team trimmed up nicely for the end of next week when they face Calgary a third time, only this time the result sticks.
This will likely be a reasonably well attended game by both team’s veterans as they have gotten good and warmed up for this contest throughout training camp. If they decide to go predominantly vets; look for an interesting set of changes they’ve been trying at practice; Samoskevich has been playing with Beniers and McCann, McMann with Eberle and Stephenson, and Berkly Catton has taken up duties down the middle instead of Shane Wright; the players having switched positions. I would love to see what that looks like in front of a real NHL team, but I suppose this is what preseason is for; just trying s#!t. I imagine if it doesn’t look right that they’ll swap.
The Flames meanwhile are currently 1-1 in preseason and coming off of a win against Vancouver which was not just not close, it was an active miracle it only ended 3-1 with how lopsided it was. That also means that all they learned is that a good chunk of their vets and some of their rookies are better than the Abbotsford Canucks, which is…probably not all that helpful for player evaluation. This game will likely be one of the very last chances that Calgary’s prospects have to make a little noise before another round of cuts decides if they stay in Calgary…or…uh…
Stay in Calgary but wear a jersey with a horse on it.
Either way! Preseason’s nearly over! After this it’s one game against Vancouver and that’s it!
LET’S GO KRAKEN
