Daniel Sprong’s return to the Emerald City will go down as a short and uneventful one.
Seattle announced they’d waived the Dutch sniper on Wednesday morning ahead of the start of a five-game road trip starting in Columbus on Thursday. Doing so kills two birds with one stone: frees up roster space and allows an otherwise underutilized winger to find an opportunity to play elsewhere. Sprong played 10 games and recorded a goal and an assist as a Kraken since being acquired from the Canucks Nov. 8 in exchange for future considerations.
At the halfway point of the season, Sprong has played 19 games this season as a whole between Seattle and Vancouver. Should he be claimed, Sprong will join his fifth different team since the beginning of the 2021-22 season.
Upon his acquisition, general manager Ron Francis noted that the winger’s “ability to score and his familiarity with our club will make him a welcomed addition.” Sprong departs the team ranked seventh among all Kraken forwards in on-ice xGF% (50%), 13th in shots on goal (31), and 13th in shooting percentage (6.5%).
