They made a game of it!
Just not enough of one to push overtime.
But first, the Highlights:
Game Notes
- Your TOI leader was Matty Beniers, who played 23:44 tonight.
- I’ll give ’em this; they didn’t stop for much. The Oilers without Connor and Leon are definitely a much more scrappy team than one would imagine them to be, and the Kraken definitely kept them guessing through at least the first twenty minutes or so and then later on in the third….but that second period of the Oilers, man. They’ve scored more than almost any team in the period of the long change, and they made their horrible work very well known to Seattle. The Kraken fought back as well as they could have, but it’s clear they still have a lot of work to do.
- This was actually a pretty productive night on the power play for the Kraken; finishing 2-for-3. Still had man-advantage problems as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was able to finish off his hat trick on an empty netter. I really don’t get what this team’s issue is with having their goalie pulled or really any Man-up situation; it’s like the game suddenly bunches up around them and they don’t know what to do next.
- It’s a little hard to come down on a goaltender in a game where 4 goals are scored between two teams; at least to me, anyway. At that point, it’s about keeping up, and the Kraken could not do that. Either way, not a great night in net for Joey, as he finished his night with an .857 SV%, although he certainly got plenty of help from his defense in getting to that lowlight of a stat.
- I really like how Kaapo Kakko is developing his chemistry with the rest of the Kraken, he’s a pinprick of light in this spooky ocean of darkness.
Was there anything good about this game?
Sure!
- Kaapo Kakko had two goals, one on the power play and one at even strength, and ended up one of the stars of the game. Excellent work from him, very happy to see him succeeding.
- Andre Burakovsky may still have a target on his back, but it’s good to see him score at all. He had a lovely pinpoint shot that made it past Stuart Skinner!
- Jared McCann and Jani Nyman were the dealers of assists, as they both ended the night with 2 apiece.

I’m glad the Kraken at least understood the assignment to be directly up Stuart Skinner’s nose. If they can keep that up, it’s a dangerous tool to have.
The Kraken get a couple of days of travel to traverse the breadth of Alberta to face the Calgary Flames on Tuesday. That game drops the puck at 6pm PT.
We’ll see you there. Thanks for reading, and as always.
Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.
