Game Preview
The Sharks are fun. A lot of fun.
Are they good? Absolutely not; they won four games up to this point and most of their loses this year have been pretty brutal. But they are fun. That, usually, is where they try to getcha.
San Jose so far this season has played about 6 or 7 overtime or one goal games this year; with almost all of their wins coming out of these contests. While they don’t often get the chance, the Sharks love a close game and especially love letting their hot young talent get a chance to be hero for an evening; Macklin Celebrini of course has taken that role well, but William Eklund, Will Smith, and Michael Misa have made plenty of in-roads towards pulling off incredible feats of hockey prowess. If they manage to offload any of the truly dogwater contracts they got kicking around on their roster, they could be due to cause some serious noise, and not just because their coach would absolutely pull a Bender from Futurama to win a game. He said it himself!
Of course, they got to lock down their ice before they get there, and crucially, the Sharks let you have so much ice. The space that other teams get in their own end feels like you’re watching an especially lopsided olympic game from how rough their defense is this season. They’ll still throw surprises at you with their talent, but this is a profoundly winnable game, and the Kraken need to settle their efforts into something reasonable; especially given how wild the swings were between Seattle and San Jose last season.
Or it could just be another wacky, wild game in the Deep. That’s also on the table. Probably moreso since both sides have sort of stuck their claim on what kind of team they want to be. Let’s see how they react together in the same tank!
