Game Preview
Welcome back! It’s another Kraken Gameday, and this time…it’s the Knights.
Last time, I had some things to get off my chest regarding a hire I didn’t like. The Knights have been gesturing at maybe doing something similar, but frankly, I don’t know why they’d bother; they’re already a wildly unpleasant team. Both to play and to deal with on a yearly basis. Not just from the aspect of eastern media figures whining “WHY CAN’T THE KRAKEN BE MORE LIKE THIS”, which is, and I must make this clear, infuriating, but also just because of their whole vibe. Their social media presence is rancid. Their jerseys look like old mustard in stadium lighting. Their team is full of twerps who don’t know how to keep their hands to themselves on the ice in spite of being enormously talented. Oh, and this year they’ve picked up the absolutely infuriating trait of trailing for a good portion of the game and then trying to win it all in the third period.
If I wanted to watch a team play hero hockey for the final 20 minutes of a game, we’ve got the entire World Juniors, Olympics, and World Championships to watch Team USA do that!
The day this team drops off the map for like five years because all their good players finally stopped being good or because their yearly spending sprees finally backfired is going to be so good. God I can’t wait for that day, man. It’s gonna be great.
What a f$!king pity it’s not this year, though.
The big story of the offseason was Mitch Marner, and who else but the Golden Knights were willing to move around enough money to accommodate his signing. Scared money don’t make money, after all, and the Knights have learned perhaps better than anyone that the NHL’s money is so scared the eagle on their quarters is shaking, and as such have been a constant thorn in the West’s side from day one, and the Kraken’s since game one of their existence.
Whinging about our opponent’s general vibe aside, this is once again going to be a major test for the Kraken. The Knights are once again an embarrassment of riches in terms of talent, and while the Kraken managed to eke out a strong win over Anaheim at home, it was a win that was born on the back of Joey Daccord playing his tuchus off to save them from a rough first period. Anaheim might be able to give them that kind of grace, I don’t think the Knights are going to be that charitable to them. They need to come out swinging.
Do that early, and all we’ll have to worry about is the third period surge they’ve shown.
LET’S GO KRAKEN, LET’S GO SQUIDS
