Game Preview

The Mammoth are in a rough way that Kraken fans may be familiar with.

Utah’s coming into this game nursing a 3 game losing streak; are 3-7-0 in their last 10, and have been losing winnable games on their recent schedule, which only adds to the frustration that Salt Lake’s faithful are going through. Florida’s a beatable team in 2025, so is Calgary, and they’ve had trouble beating them even when they’re actually doing pretty well. It’s left them sort of in the same position Seattle has been over the last couple of weeks, even if they’re still getting world class performances out of Dylan Guenther, Nick Schmaltz, and Clayton Keller.

Of course, with all their positives, Utah still got a major kick in the gut from losing Logan Cooley for a backbreaking 8 weeks. That’s a serious loss for them as it takes a serious dynamism from their game that largely leaves their first line as the biggest threat to their opponents. Locking them down will short circuit a lot of what the Mammoth are right now, as their producing scorers are pretty few and far between outside of their top six forwards (and even then, it’s more like top 4). Further, net-front defense is once again going to be paramount, as a vast majority of Utah’s shooting and scoring comes from the net-front or from the slot, so keeping them to the outside will break down that potent attack.

It’ll be a helluva test to potentially get the Kraken back into the mix, but if there’s anything we know about this season, it’s that nothing’s ever set in stone. With that in mind, there’s nothing much to lose, so why not just ace this test in particular?
